World Record holder and Olympic Champion Wayde Van Niekerk set his third best lifetime performance while cruising over the last 20 meter. It was Van Niekerk’s first big 400m race of this season and he made it clear that he will be difficult to beat at the World Championships in London.
Mariya Lasitskene from Russia is allowed to compete as an authorized neutral athlete. She made a phenomenal jump across 2.06m which is a Diamond League Record and a World Leading performance. She equaled her national record that stands as the fifth all time performance in the Women’s High Jump. Lasitskene, formerly known as Kuchina, now dominantly heads the #RoadToBrussels with 32 points. Lasitskene and Licwinko from Poland now already secured a spot in the IAAF Diamond League Final in Brussels.
PICHARDO BEATS TAYLOR
In the Men’s Triple Jump Christian Taylor suffered his first defeat after 3 Diamond Race wins in a row. Cuban Pedro Pichardo triple jumped to 17.60m, while Taylor had a best effort of 17.49m. Both rivals will be on show in Brussels on Sep., 1st.

In the 400m Hurdles American Ashley Spencer ran to victory in 53”90, ahead of local Léa Sprunger in 54”29. Sprunger needs more Diamond race points to qualify for the Final, Spencer has already made it to the Final. Tianna Bartoletta (USA) finished third in the Long Jump and also qualified for the Final. Ivana Spanovic (6.79m) won the competition ahead of Shakeela Saunders (6.68m). The need more Diamond Race scorings to qualify. Ryan Crouser won the Shot Put with a try of 22.39m. Crouser qualified to compete in the Diamond League Final which will be held on August, 31st at Square de la Monnaie in the Brussels City Centre.
A FAST RACE FROM SCHIPPERS
Muktar Edris from Ethiopia set a World Leading mark of 12’55”23 in the fastest Men’s 5000m race since 2015. Justin Gatlin took the 100m in rather indifferent 9”96. Olympic Champion Sara Kolak (CRO) set a World Leading performance in the Javelin Throw with 68.43m.
Genzebe Dibaba attacked the Mile World Record but failed by nearly three and a half seconds in 4’16”05. Dafne Schippers won the 200m in a seasonal best of 22”10, proving that she is gradually winding up the pace towards the World Championships.
