Kevin had a difficult season and to be eliminated in the semifinals of the 400m at the European Championships in Zürich was a massive disappointment for the 2010 European champion. “I definitely needed more competitions to find the right rhythm and the right feeling to run the distance.” Last Sunday in Berlin finally Kevin could be satisfied about his race and about the result. The 26 year old Belgian is back in business.
He really is looking forward to next Friday. The support of his home crowd and the fast track offers Kevin a perspective to end his season with a sub 45 seconds race.
Olivia faces a totally different competition. “My favourite distances are the 100m and the 200m but I didn’t qualify individually for the EC in Zürich. After coming back from injury I had a marvellous opportunity to compete in the 4 x 400m team for Belgium. “I thank meeting organizer Wilfried Meert to ofer me the occasion to participate in the individual 400m in the Diamond League Final.” Incidentally Olivia ran the fastest leg of the Belgian 4 x 400m team in Zürich, unofficially timed at 51”5 seconds.
In the past Olivia Borlée already competed at the Memorial Van Damme but that dates back from 2009 in the sprint events (100m and 200m). “It is rewarding to come back at this level after having suffered so many years from injuries.”
