Between May and September the AG Insurance Urban Memorial Van Damme is heading for Namur, Ghent, Antwerp and Ostend. The fifth city will be named and announced later on. On Saturday June, 11th a Pole Vault competition will be held on the Grote Markt (Central Market Square) in Antwerp. Multiple national champion Fanny Smets will face a large number of strong national and international pole vaulters.
On May, 22nd a High Jump competition will be held in Namur as part of the AG Insurance Urban Memorial Van Damme. Heptathlete Nafissatou Thiam leads the field in that event. On Sunday June, 5th decathlete Thomas Vander Plaetsen challenges the long jumpers at the Botermarkt (Butter Market) in Ghent. In Ostend the AG Insurance Urban Memorial Van Damme takes advantage of the Klein Strand (Little Beach) to organize a Discus Throw event on July, 22nd with World Silver Medallist Philip Milanov as the main contender.
CHILDREN AND YOUNGSTERS
In the Preprogram of the meeting children and youngsters will be offered an opportunity to participate in introductory athletics programs. In Antwerp and in Namur former Olympic High Jump champion Tia Hellebaut will introduce the children in long jump, shot put and high jump in children proof formats. She will be assisted by coaches and athletes from local athletics clubs. National athletics hero Kim Gevaert will also be present at some of the Urban Memorial events.
