For the second year in a row the Queen of the Coastside Cities hosted this spectacular event. The Ostend seafront turned into an athletics arena in sunny summertime conditions.
A unique day for Milanov
After Nafi Thiam won the High Jump (1.87m) at St Lambert Square in Liège it was now up to Philip Milanov to throw his Discus as far as possible in front of his home fans. Recently Milanov, who was a silver medallist at both the World and European Championships won the Diamond League meeting in Shangai.
Milanov actually wasn’t fully able to demonstrate his fine form in the windy conditions on the seaside and didn’t throw anywhere near to his personal best of 67.26m. Milanov opened with 62.12m, followed by his winning effort of 64.68m. Dutchmen Eric Cadee (63.50m) and Stephan Dekker (62.40m) finished in second and third.
“A beautiful day on a unique location”, said Milanov, somehow expressing satisfaction. “This is a great event that puts the Discus Throw in the spotlights. This was an occasion to present myself to the fans in a relaxed and easy fashion.”
Kids Athletics succesful
