The Brussels 10K is a new running event in Brussels and it aims to strenghten ties with the famous 10000m of the AG Insurance Memorial Van Damme. To underline that tie the start of the Brussels 10K will take place on the track of the King Baudouin Stadium where the Diamond League Meeting will be held on September, 11th . 24 out of the 50 best ever 10000m performances have been set in Brussels. The course lead the athletes through the parks on the Heysel plateau and after a passing the Atomium they finished in the brand new Concert Hall in Palace 12. A spectacular light show and DJ-sets welcomed the finishing athletes.
Komon savored the tough race. The course did not allow to run as fast as 26’44” which is his World Record mark, but the Kenyan star studded athlete truly enjoyed to compete in and around the King Baudouin stadium and finished in a winning 32’23”. Less than one minute later Laurens Vanderlinden came in second, while Dries Busselot was third, more than one minute behind his clubmate. The 5K was won by Kamil Al-Ghazali who finished just inside 20 minutes in 19’52”.
No less than 4200 participants joined this event, which is a very successful debut for this brand new race.
