The field of the very first Brussel 10K will be highlighted by the presence of Leonard Komon who holds the World 10K Road Race record in 26’44”. The 27 year old Kenyan equally holds the 15K Road Race World Record and made the fastest Half Marathon debut ever in Berlin in 2014. Next week Komon competes in the Prague Half Marathon before he heads to Brussels for the very first edition of this 10K.
“Komon is very excited about this new event”, says Wilfried Meert, meeting organizer of the Brussels Diamond League Meeting. The setting of the course is marvelous and it will be a new experience for Komon to finish indoors in Palace 12 at the Brussels Expo site just behind the Stadium. Also Komon has a special relationship with Brussels where he participated in the 5000m and in the 10000m at the AG Insurance Memorial Van Damme. Therefore he was delighted to put this new event on his agenda.”
The 10K belongs to Brussels
The Brussels 10K is a new running event in Brussels and it aims to strenghten ties with the famous 10000m of the AG Insurance Memorial Van Damme. To underline that tie the start of the Brussels 10K will take place on the track of the King Baudouin Stadium where the Diamond League Meeting will be held on September, 11th . 24 out of the 50 best ever 10000m performances have been set in Brussels ! The course will lead the athletes through the parks on the Heysel plateau and after a passing the Atomium they will finish in the brand new Concert Hall in Palace 12. A spectacular light show and DJ-sets will welcome the finishing athletes.

This new 10K event (or 5K for those who prefer a shorter distance) is an ideal test or preparation for those who want to compete in the Antwerp 10 Miles or in the Brussels 20K.
