At the Square Emile Braun a large pit of sand will bet he decorum of an international Long Jump event. In front of his home crowd Thomas Van der Plaetsen will be challenged by fellow decathletes Hans Van Alphen and Eelco Sintnicolaas. It will not be an easy job for the multi-eventers, with medal winners of recent World Championships on the Entry List. : Jianan Wang (bronze WC 2015) and Changzou Huang (bronze WC indoor 2016) from China and Ignasious Gaisah from the Netherlands (bronze WC 2013).
Children and Youth
Throughout the afternoon children and young kids can participate in Kids Athletics and athletics initiation sessions, led by Tia Hellebaut and by coaches of three athletics clubs from ghent : Stax, Racing Ghent and KAA Ghent.
Special Olympics Belgium will present the Unified Sports Team to the audience, composed of 4 athletes with a mental handicap and 2 accompanying athletes in a Long Jump demonstration event.
Participation and access to the international competition is free ! The AG Insurance Urban Memorial Van Damme is a unique opportunity at a unique location to have a close look and a great experience with high performance athletics.

- Friday July 22: Ostend, Klein Strand (Discus Throw with Philip Milanov)
