Imana Truyers was born in Ruanda and she is a child of the genocide that happened there in 1994. Imana was born in a refugee camp and her mother died. Imana stayed a few months in an orphanage and was adopted by a Belgian family later on.
THOUSAND HILLS OF HOPE
She still has a strong link with the country of her birth and with her family. With the years passing by the desire of Imana to discover her roots and to give something back to her country was only growing stronger. She started raising funds with her father a few years ago to support the people in the region where she was born.
Thousand Hills of Hope supports street children and orphins by providing them with medication, toys and food but also by constructing water wells, toilets and sports facilities. The next project that is coming up is the renovation and the extension of the pediatric hospital of Kansi.
BRILLIANT DOCUMENTARY
Together with Belgian photographer Eva Verbeeck and the American director Specer McDonald Imana travelled to Ruanda. The documentary “Thousand Hills of Hope” is the brilliant result of this cooperation. It shows the beautiful natural landscapes of Ruanda but it also tells the cruel history that the country went through.
The AG Memorial Van Damme will raise funds in different ways. The original painting will be on auction and it will directly benefit to this project.
