Farah’s race was far from being the most challenging of his career, but nevertheless Mo took victory in impressive style and fashion. Bouchikhi dropped off the pace at 2K but held on and shaved 6 seconds off his PB.
Kévin Borlée wasn’t convincing in a 400m race that he should be capable to win. Briton Dwayne Cowan won it in 45”34, while Kévin had to settle for 6th place in 46”23. His 4 races in London must have been very tiring for Kévin. Isaac Kimeli could’t move up from the back of the field in the Mile and finished in 10th place in 3’59”35 or 8 seconds off the national record held by Pieter-Jan Hannes.
Renée Eykens ran a fine 800m race. The European Under 23 Champion gradually closed in from the back and came through strongly in the final straight. She finished in 6th in a seasonal best of 2’02”23.
World Champion Mutaz Essa Barshim from Qatar was the star of the day in Birmingham. He set a World Leading performance in the High Jump of 2.40m, loudly supported by his fellow High Jumpers. The 3000m was the most spectular Women’s event. Sifan Hassan (NED) won in World Leading and National Record of 8’28”90. Another National Record (8’29”89) was set by 20 year old German prospect Konstanze Klosterhalfen who triumphed in second.
