Those who cross the finish line in the King Baudouin Stadium are in good company : hundredths of world class athletes have shined on this track. The 10000m is the most emblematic event of the AG Insurance Memorial van Damme. Out of the 50 fastest performances in the 10000m, no less than 24 (!) have been set in Brussels.
Coming out of the stadium the course passes at some of the hidden gems at the Heysel platform. The Park of Laeken, the Jan Sobieski and the Osseghem Park are maybe little known but they are as nice and interesting as many other city parks. The course is not flat at all which makes it demanding enough and a good preparation for road running events that are to come in the next weeks and months.
Former athlete Cédric Van Branteghem holds the starting gun of the 5K and 10 through Brussels. The King Baudouin Stadium is one of his favourite track grounds. In the exciting athmosphere of the AG Insurance Memorial van Damme he set his best ever results. And what is more : Cédric will participate next Sunday and you can try to finish in advance of him !
Very particular characters will hand over the medals at the finish line. The Smurfs are the mascots of the AG Insurance Memorial van Damme. They will be present next Sunday in honour of the 40th edition of the AG Insurance Memorial van Damme.
