The 100m and 200m World Record holder doesn’t have any worries about the upcoming World Championships. “My team has done a fantastic job over the last months to get me ready, as they have done during my whole career. I worked very hard with my coach and with my doctor.”
Bolt admits that he went through a difficult period. “In April my good friend Germaine Mason (silver medalist for Great Britain in the Beijing Olympics in the High Jump) died in a motorbike accident. That meant a serious setback for me. But now my focus is back, I want to make a good statement here in Monaco and strengthen my confidence ahead of the World Championships.”
NO 200 M
Bolt also confirmed that he will not compete in the 200m in London and that the World Championships will be his final competition. The Jamaican said that he still has a mission to complete in the 100m after have been disqualified at the 2011 World Championships in Daegu. His decision not to compete in the 200m has nothing to do with the presence of Wayde Van Niekerk.
“As you all know I have never shown any fear for my opponents and that is not different now. I have a lot of respect for Wayde, but I’m in the final stages of my career and he is still making his breakthrough. It would heve been fun to compete against Wayde, but this is how things go. In the best years of my career I would always have beaten Wayde in the 100m and the 200m. The 300m would have been an interesting challenge.”
DE GRASSE AT AG MEMORIAL VAN DAMME
Usain Bolt won’t compete at the King Baudouin Stadium on Sep., 1st. But Andre De Grasse will. The Canadian won the Diamond League Meeting in Rabat recently.
