In Beijing's Bird's Nest Stadium world record holder Bolt blitzed to 9.79, his best time this season. Bolt narrowly held off his American in-form rival Justin Gatlin (9.80), who had to settle for silver.
It was the third 100m title for Bolt after Berlin 2009 and Moscow 2013 and his ninth gold in total. In addition to a third 100m gold, Lightning Bolt is also aiming for a fourth consecutive 200m world title (following 2009, 2011 and 2013).
